Infographic: Implementing Electronic Health Records (EHRs)

After just posting about how most physicians are unhappy with their current EHR I thought this infographic I came across that includes 9 steps for successful EHR Implementation would be of interest. It’s from our friends at The Ohio University MHA Program.

Electronic health records are now being used by more than 4 out of 5 healthcare organizations to boost efficiency, enable better communication, and cut costs.

Benefits of Electronic Health Records

However, there’s a lot of planning that has to take place before those benefits can become a reality. Often, physicians can become frustrated with these systems when they aren’t fully trained on their use.

“Imagine, in a world where a 2-year-old can operate an iPhone, you have graduate-educated physicians brought to their knees by electronic health records,” summarized Steven J. Stack, MD, the president of the American Medical Association during a town hall meeting in Boston.

To make standardize EHRs, the government has established a penalty in 2015 against Medicare eligible professionals who can’t demonstrate meaningful use of EHRs.

Creating a Plan for EHR Adoption

With confusion over federal requirements and usability of EHR technology, a lack of planning has impacted the effectiveness of EHRs for some healthcare organizations. Considering the overwhelming number of benefits in using EHR systems, this highlights the importance of planning before implementation.

In this infographic you’ll learn how health organizations are implementing EHRs meaningfully, using nine steps of planning.
